Small Town Gay Bar is a startling and poignant look at the multiple struggles waged
by gays and lesbians in the rural South, focusing on the only social institution available to them. The film features a not-to-be-missed interview with Fred Phelps, notorious for disrupting the funerals of Matthew Shepard and US soldiers killed in Iraq.
The dramatic feature Unveiled is the story of Fariba, an Iranian woman who flees persecution because of her love for another woman. In Germany, she lives under an assumed male identity until a German woman falls in love with him." The film features a stunning
performance by Jasmin Tabatabai (Bandits). In German, with English subtitles.
The documentary Blood, Sweat & Glitter follows six contestants as they vie for the title of Miss Trannyshack. Variety dubbed it “jawdroppingly tasteless," but the film is an entertaining and surprisingly touching exploration of the clash of traditional drag and post-
modern performance art. The film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Frameline, San Francisco's GLBT film festival, and the Director's Circle Award for Best Feature at the Fresno Pride Film Festival.
The festival's encore film, Gay Sex in the 70s, explores the now little-known era between Stonewall and the AIDS epidemic in New York City, when gay men felt that the very act of having sex was an act of political liberation. Combining still photos, film clips and personal narratives from the likes of photographer Tom Branch and the writers Larry Kramer and Arme kantrowitz, the filmrevokes the dawn of gay liberation, which was to mature during the AIDS epidemic. led by these sexual rebels.
Short films to be shown include Jaywalking, by Kathy Huang and I eigh Iacobucci. A ten-minute video about a rising drag king star Jay Walker.
Hung by Guinevere Turner. Female friends take a pill that gives them a penis for 24 hours.
SISSY Frenchtry, written by Joe Brouillette: features Leslie Jordan as West Beach High's Principal Principle. Sissy runs for student body president against socially intolerant transfer student Bodey McDodey You'll love this film.
